Animal Rights Activist Natasha Brenner Turns 97

When she turned 87 years old, Natasha Brenner, along with her husband Noah, decided to leave behind their quiet lives in suburban Long Island and move into New York in order to join the city’s burgeoning animal rights movement.  With great humility and oversized hearts, they brought their wisdom and positive energy to wherever bodies were needed — from circus, fur and horse-drawn carriage protests to rallies on the steps of City Hall.  On the eve of her 97th birthday, Natasha sat down with TheirTurn to talk about her life and her advocacy.

Thousands Attend NYC Vegetarian Food Festival

Thousands of New Yorkers lined up outside of the Metropolitan Pavilion in Manhattan to await their chance to taste hundreds of plant-based foods being sampled at the 8th Annual New York City Vegetarian Food Festival.  The two-day festival featured over 120 vendors and three stages of entertainment and expert presentations on health, nutrition and advocacy.

“Eight years ago, it was just a little space, and now we’ve got two floors and 8,000 people,” said Nira Paliwoda and Sarah Gross Feoli, the founders of U.S. VegCorp, which produces the festival. “It’s not just for vegans and vegetarians. It’s for everybody that loves great food and compassion.”
