Video Shows Experimenters Attacking Peaceful Protesters

Animal rights activists are accustomed to being harassed and threatened during protests, but the worst abuses are rarely caught on camera because they are usually random acts – a punch thrown; a shove; someone spitting, etc.

On January 18th, however, activists with Progress for Science recorded several harrowing minutes of bullying and physical intimidation — by academic researchers, no less. On that day, 11 activists holding a peaceful vigil to honor 11 monkeys being abused for redundant and needless government-funded research in UCLA labs were met with viscous attacks by counter-protesters.

Your Turn

This video, which has been seen by only 11,100 people, should have gone viral when it was first posted – not only because of the shocking behavior of the UCLA researchers, but also because of the bravery of the activists. They courageously put themselves in harm’s way – on behalf of the animals who were being harmed.

The video also inadvertently teaches an important lesson: As activists, we must keep our rage in check because outbursts and aggression, shown by the experimenters in this case, shift attention away from the animals, which is where the spotlight should shine.

Please visit Progress for Science to help bring an end to the archaic animal experiments being conducted at UCLA.

Another glorious day for science – not! This just goes to show that having an education – a University title – does not entail being educated.

  2. Lee says:

It disturbs me greatly that such violent and aggressive people experiment on animals. Why so abusively defensive? My respect to the protestors, my love and sympathy to the poor animals who fall victim to such vile human beings. To the vivisectors, my unending contempt and disgust.

  3. Tekker says:

This must be the most disturbing piece of internet I have witnessed.
I can only imagine how they threat those animals, without any consideration of others and there feelings.
These people are pure evil in my eyes, I can not believe the police stood by and did nothing…

  4. Joyce Dunlap says:

Where were the police? The pro vivisectionists acted like insane people. Their sociopathic personalities were on full display. I am just shocked that there was so much hatred and abuse going on here. It’s hard to believe there are such monsters at UCLA.

  5. Elizabeth Aldam says:

These activists have all my support and admiration.Their abusers have all my contempt.

  6. Christina Elliott says:

Absolutely disgusting behaviour. I think the police should have stepped in more and protected their right to peaceful protest. The protesters obviously have them worried for such an over the top reaction.

  7. Susan Trout says:

For such high-educated and supposedly rational people to behave like these vivisectors did convinces me that those who seek such a career are borderline sociopathic. You don’t help the human race by imprisoning and torturing other sentient beings. Vivsection is based on nothing but lies and greed. The poor voiceless beings who suffer every day are victims of humankind’s arrogance. My god! We are a despicable species.

  8. Zizi says:

This shameful display of intolerance by those who daily torture animals is further proof of their indifference to life, their insensitivity to other intelligent, sentient beings who suffer and experience pain as much as we do.

They are thugs, bullies, abusers, who believe in their own “superiority” (LOL) and who have demonstrated that they have no regard for anyone; they are enamored with their own self-serving needs and self-importance.

Their scientific arguments are relics of the past and they know it. They are only in it for the $$$$$$$$$$$!

  9. Sofia says:

The researchers who acted this way I hope saw this video. It’s appalling and obvious that only someone who knows that they are doing something wrong would be so angry at a peaceful protest. Everyone who abuses wants it to be kept in the dark. Bravo to the activists for their bravery and commitment.
