Donny Moss

Donny Moss is a NYC-based animal rights (AR) campaign organizer, video producer and journalist with TheirTurn, an online AR magazine with video and print news stories documenting the movement. Moss launched TheirTurn.net in 2014. From 2006 – 2008, Moss made BLINDERS: The Truth Behind the Tradition, an award-winning film that documents NYC’s controversial horse-drawn carriage trade. The film, which was screened at film festivals and aired on the Documentary Channel, has been used as a resource by animal rights campaigners around the world working to ban horse-drawn carriages in city centers. From 2009 – 2013, Moss led a successful campaign to derail the political career of an elected official running for Mayor who, as Speaker of the NYC Council, blocked animal protection legislation for eight years. From 2015 – 2017, Moss led a successful pressure campaign to compel the New York Blood Center (NYBC) to pay for the care of 66 chimpanzees who the organization abandoned with no food or water on islands in Liberia after conducting experiments on them for 30 years. In a first for the animal rights movement, he convinced three corporations (Citigroup, MetLife and IBM) to issue public statements condemning a charity with which they partnered. That campaign ended in May 2017 when the NYBC made a $6 million contribution toward the lifelong care of the chimps. From 2019 – 2021, Moss led a successful pressure campaign to compel a national animal protection organization to improve conditions at a chimpanzee sanctuary it operated in Georgia. That campaign ended in 2022, when the group made a $20 million allocation to the sanctuary. For current campaigns, search “kangaroo” and “animal warehousing” on TheirTurn.net
